Hexagram 56 · 火山旅
The Wanderer
Fire · Li palace
Being outside the structure; conduct without a base.
Meaning
Fire on the mountain: light that moves on and does not stay. The Wanderer describes a position outside the established structure, without the protection that membership provides.
Decision Framework
Stay careful and correct; you have no base yet.
Decision Guidance
The Wanderer describes being in a state without a home position: new to a place, outside the established order, dependent on the goodwill of those already inside the structure.
The classical advice is unusually practical. Because a wanderer has no reserves and no standing, the recommendations concern conduct: be clear and modest, keep your word, avoid entanglements and unnecessary disputes, and do not presume on hospitality. This is not a permanent condition in the reading, but while it lasts, safety comes from discipline rather than from demands.
