Hexagram 22 · 山火贲
Grace
Earth · Gen palace
Form and presentation; beauty that should serve substance.
Meaning
Fire at the foot of a mountain: light that illuminates the surface. Grace concerns form, presentation and appearance.
Decision Framework
Polish the form, but keep it serving substance.
Decision Guidance
Grace is the hexagram of presentation. It appears when how something is expressed, packaged or framed genuinely affects the outcome — a proposal, a product, a public position.
The hexagram's useful distinction is between ornament that clarifies and ornament that substitutes. Presentation that helps a real substance be seen is recommended; presentation used to cover for a thin or unready substance is not. The classical caution is that small matters can be settled by form, but major ones cannot. Polish, then make sure there is something underneath to find.
