Hexagram 5 · 水天需

Waiting

Water · Kun palace

Confident patience: preparation while conditions mature.

Meaning

Clouds rise and rain has not yet fallen. The situation is moving, but not yet at the point where action changes anything.

Decision Framework

Wait deliberately, and prepare.

Decision Guidance

Waiting is the hexagram of timing that has not arrived. It is not an instruction to do nothing; it is an instruction to stop spending effort on a door that is not unlockable yet, and to put that effort into readiness instead.

The classical image is of a meal that must be eaten when it is ready. The practical reading is to keep the objective intact, keep your commitments intact, and use the interval to strengthen what you will need on the day movement resumes. Impatience here usually converts a solvable delay into a genuine problem.
